A Lot of New Faces in This Week's CCCMBCA Poll
Twelve colleges who weren't in the preseason poll are in this week's poll, led by West LA
Twelve unranked preseason colleges break into this week's CCCMBCA poll, highlighted by West LA coming in at No. 7. Victroies over Saddleback, LA Southwest and Fullerton boosted the Wildcats into the top 10. San Francisco City, the defending state champions and the preseason ranked No. 1 team, easily secured the top spot. Santa Rosa moved from No. 11 to No. 2 this week, powerd by six consecutive wins. Fullerton slipped to No. 3, with Citurs and Las Positas, rounding out the top five.
Just four unbeaten teams remain — No. 5 Las Posias, No. 8 Modesto, No. 9 Santiago Canyon and No. 24 Santa Ana.
The CCCMBCA poll is created using the CCCMBCA NCRPI score for each team which is then added to a team's Winning Percentage Index (WPI) score. Averaging the two rankings provides a ranking score, highlest to lowest. For those who are new, the WPI is a measurement used to determine post-season berths. The WPI determines the value of wins and losses according to the varying strength of schedule for each team. It dies deeper into a team's success over the NCRPI score.
The WPI software determines the value of the cumulative wins and losses that each team has against other teams, including out-of-state community colleges (something the NCRPI can't do). Results against junior varsity, club and alumni teams are excluded from earning points and being factored into a college's score.
A win against a team with a winning record earns more value than a win against a team with a losing record. Conversely, a loss to a team with a winning record is less detrimental than a loss to a losing team. At the time of each report, each team's current winning percentage is assigned a number value from among 16 sectors (separated by 6.25 percent increments). The value of a win or loss can change after each game due to potential "sector" changes to their opponent's sector. In other words, teams move up and down depending each game's outcome, which is why we use the word dynamic to explain the value of a win and or loss.
Once completion of non-conference is completed, a team's WPI ranking will be used for the state poll. Since the WPI also provides a strength of schedeule for each conference, it is used to break any possible ties for the state ranking. Since the baseline for conference ranking in the WPI is a bit early, this week's poll includes ties (interesting all for the 25th spot).
